Celtic Worship |

In addition to our traditional Sunday morning worship service, Westminster Presbyterian Church offers an alternative worship service once each week at 9:00 am on Sunday mornings. The Celtic worship service is a service based largely on the expressions of faith and worship found in the Iona Community (a community formed at an ancient Celtic Christian monastery on a small island off the west coast of Scotland). The Iona Community states regarding worship: “In worship we celebrate the love of God, and we celebrate our own life together as a gift of God. We seek to discover new ways through which worship may come alive, and a new understanding of God. We are committed to an approach to worship that is: · Incarnational - expressing the belief that there is no part of our life that is beyond the reach of our faith. · Historical - drawing on the Christian heritage and the experience and creativity of our forebears in the faith. · Ecumenical - reflecting the gifts to be received as part of the worldwide church and from the various traditions represented in our membership · Creaturely - allowing response through senses, as well as intellect, and giving full scope for the changing power of prayer. · Inclusive - affirming God’s welcome to all who seek to worship in spirit and in truth. · Thoroughly participative – affirming and sharing individual gifts and corporate resources, recognizing that we need God, we need each other, and God needs us, for we are part of the Body, God’s hands, eyes, feet in today’s world. Learn more about the Celtic Christian tradition by visiting the Iona Community website at http://www.iona.org.uk/index.htm. Additionally, in Celtic worship we utilize, primarily, music and songs with a Celtic flare. |
